Karuta

Karuta is an absolute gem in the busy town of Hakone. With unbeatable prices and delicious skewers, hotpot, and tamago, it is a meal to remember. The traditional izakaya offers a cozy atmosphere with traditional Japanese seating, and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, despite the language barrier. The yakitori set, specifically the fatty pork (tontoro) and the chicken meatball, are must-tries. The small hotpot with a miso base is also highly recommended, with its sweet and hearty vegetables. Vegetarian options are also available. Karuta is definitely worth the walk up from the main town and a must-visit for an unforgettable experience.
