What Is Da Lat Market?
Da Lat Market, known locally as Chợ Đà Lạt and sometimes called the Da Lat central market, is the commercial heart of the city. It stands on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street in the middle of town, next to the Hoa Binh area, and the streets around it are some of the busiest in Da Lat. The current building dates from the 1950s to 1960s, and its long concrete ramp and spiral stairs have become a popular photo spot in their own right.
This is a working local market first and a tourist stop second. Households do their daily shopping here, which is exactly what makes it interesting. You will see highland vegetables stacked in neat piles, flower sellers wrapping bouquets, and shop owners calling out in a mix of Vietnamese and a few words of English. If you only have time for one place to feel the everyday rhythm of Da Lat, make it this one.
Searching for "dalat market" or "market Da Lat" can turn up two different things, so here is the quick version: the market hall is the day market described on this page, and the night market is the evening street scene around it. Our Da Lat night market guide covers the evening side in detail.
What You Will Find, Floor by Floor
Ground floor: fresh produce & flowers
The heart of the market is the everyday food hall. Locals shop here for vegetables, herbs, mushrooms and cut flowers, and the highland climate means the produce looks different from what you see on the coast. Look for strawberries, avocados, artichokes, passion fruit and bunches of Da Lat roses. Even if you are not cooking, a slow lap is a good way to see the city at work.
Upper floor: clothing & knitwear
Climb the stairs and the market turns into rows of small clothing stalls. Warm clothes are the speciality: beanies, scarves, gloves, wool jumpers and light jackets. If you arrived from Saigon or the beach and underestimated how cool Da Lat gets after dark, this is the cheapest place to fix it.
Outside stalls: snacks & souvenirs
The stalls on the steps and around the building sell the things people take home: dried fruit, jam, candied fruit, artichoke tea, Da Lat wine and local coffee. Most vendors let you taste before you buy, so try a few before choosing.
Morning vs. Evening: Two Markets in One Place
🌅 Morning and daytime
The market hall is at its best early. Produce is fresh, the aisles are easier to walk, and stallholders have time to chat. This is the time to browse the ground floor, taste souvenirs and take photos of the spiral ramp without a crowd.
🌙 After about 17:00
As the day stalls pack up, the same area turns into the night market, with grills, soy milk carts, clothing racks and plastic stools on the steps. It is livelier and louder, and a very different experience from the morning.
Our suggestion: do the market hall in the morning, have a coffee by the lake, and come back for dinner when the night market starts. If it rains, the covered hall is a good plan B, and our Da Lat weather guide helps you choose your day.
Best Time to Visit
For fresh produce and calm aisles, go in the morning on a weekday. For atmosphere, go late afternoon and stay on into the evening. Weekends and Vietnamese holidays are the busiest, when visitors from Ho Chi Minh City fill the centre of town, so expect crowds on the stairs and slow walking in the narrow aisles.
Bring a light jacket even for a morning trip, because Da Lat is cool for most of the year. Wear comfortable shoes with grip, since the floors near the produce stalls can be wet. Carry some small cash notes, as most stalls do not take cards, and keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket or zipped bag in the busiest parts.
Souvenir Shopping List
Everything here is sold at cheap market prices, so you can try small amounts before you commit.
Dried & candied fruit
Persimmon, strawberry, mixed fruit leather and candied snacks. Light, easy to pack and good value as gifts.
Jam
Strawberry and other fruit jams in jars. Jars survive a long bus ride much better than fresh fruit.
Coffee & tea
The highlands grow coffee, and artichoke tea is a Da Lat speciality. Buy sealed bags if you are flying home.
Da Lat wine
Local fruit wines are sold in small bottles. Check airline rules on liquids before you pack them in hand luggage.
Knitwear
Hats, scarves and gloves from the upper floor. Useful right away if your next stop is cooler than you planned for.
Flowers
Fresh bouquets are cheap, though they will not last a long trip. A bunch for a hostel room is a nice touch.
What to Eat Around the Market
You will not go hungry here. The market is surrounded by small food stalls and shops, and many of Da Lat's best-known snacks are within a few minutes of the main entrance. A few to look for:
- Bánh tráng nướng — Grilled rice paper, often called Vietnamese pizza, cooked over charcoal with egg, spring onion and toppings.
- Bánh căn — Small rice-flour pancakes cooked in clay moulds and served with dipping sauce and herbs.
- Sữa đậu nành — Fresh hot soy milk, the classic way to warm up on a cool Da Lat morning or evening.
- Lẩu (hot pot) — Restaurants in the streets around the market serve bubbling pots, best shared by a group.
For the full list of dishes, with what each one is and how to order, read our guide to what to eat in Da Lat.
Bargaining Etiquette
Light bargaining is part of shopping for clothes, knitwear and souvenirs. Ask the price, smile, and offer a little less. If the vendor will not move, you can thank them and walk on, and you will often be called back with a better price. Keep it friendly, because this is a conversation and not a contest, and a small difference matters far more to the seller than to you.
Do not bargain for fresh produce or food, which are normally priced fairly and sold by weight or portion. Look at a few stalls before buying a big souvenir, check quality when you pay, and ask for a taste of anything edible first.

Supermarkets & ATMs Nearby
Need a supermarket in Dalat for water, snacks or toiletries? You do not have to go far. Convenience stores and small supermarkets sit on the streets around the market, and you will pass several on the walk from the hostel. Vietcombank and Agribank ATMs are around the market square, which makes it a convenient place to withdraw cash before shopping, since most stalls only take cash. Check your bank's withdrawal limit and any fees before you go, and use ATMs in daylight where you can.
Combine the Market with Other Sights
The market is a short walk from Xuan Huong Lake and Lam Vien Square, so it fits neatly into a relaxed city day. Pair it with a visit to the quirky Crazy House for architecture lovers, and see our list of things to do in Da Lat for more ideas. Da Lat Market — FAQ
Where is Da Lat Market?
Da Lat Market (Chợ Đà Lạt) is in the centre of the city, on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street, beside the Hoa Binh area and just below the walking street. It is about a 10-minute walk from Mooka's Home at 02 Co Loa, or a few minutes by Grab.
What time does Da Lat Market open?
The covered market is a day market and gets going in the morning, with the freshest produce early on. Individual stalls set their own hours, so exact times vary. Come in the morning or early afternoon for the full experience, and ask at reception if you want to check what is open on the day.
What should I buy at Da Lat Market?
The classic Da Lat shopping list is dried and candied fruit, strawberry jam, artichoke tea, local coffee, Da Lat wine and warm clothing such as beanies and scarves. Fresh strawberries and avocados are great to eat on the spot.
Is Da Lat Market the same as the night market?
Not quite. Da Lat Market is the big covered market hall that runs during the day. After about 17:00 the same area fills with food carts, grills and clothing stalls and becomes the night market. Most visitors see both in one trip.
Can I bargain at Da Lat Market?
Yes, friendly bargaining is normal for clothes and souvenirs, so ask for a better price with a smile and walk away politely if you do not agree. Fresh produce and street food are usually fixed price, so there is no need to haggle over a snack.
Is there a supermarket near Da Lat Market?
Yes. Convenience stores and small supermarkets are on the streets around the market, and there are several ATMs on the market square. For your daily basics, the shops on the way between the market and the hostel are the easiest option.
