Arriving in Da Lat Early on a Night Bus: Bags & Check-in

The front of Mooka's Home at 02 Co Loa, Da Lat, where night-bus guests drop their bags in the morning

In short

Overnight buses from Saigon, Hoi An and the coast often reach Da Lat before dawn. At Mooka's Home reception opens at 07:30 and check-in is from 13:30, so plan on leaving your bags at reception, eating breakfast nearby and starting your day; if you need the bed the moment you arrive, book the night before. Leaving on a night bus is the mirror image: check out by 11:30, leave your bags with us and hire a shower towel (20,000 VND) before the bus. Updated November 2026.

The short version: what happens when your bus gets in early

You arriveWhat you can doTip
Before 07:30Reception is not open yet. Have breakfast or a coffee nearby, then walk over.Message us on WhatsApp before you board with your bus and expected arrival time.
07:30–13:30Leave your bags at reception and head out: a tour, the lake, the market.Keep a warm layer and your phone charger in a day bag.
From 13:30Check in, shower, sleep. Before a sunrise tour the next day, go to bed early.
You want the bed straight awayBook the night before your arrival, so the bed is already yours.Cheaper than a lost morning if you know you will not sleep on the bus.

Guests ask us this more than anything else about arriving: "can I check in at 12?", "my bus gets in around 8 AM, can I check in then?", "how much is early check-in?". The honest answer is that a bed is only free early when nobody slept in it the night before, so we cannot promise it in advance. What we can always do is take your bags at reception from 07:30, so the morning is not wasted.

Why night buses arrive so early

Sleeper buses are timed to leave in the evening and arrive in the morning, and on the way up into the highlands they often run ahead of schedule. From Saigon the ride is about 7–9 hours (Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat); from Hoi An and Da Nang it is a long overnight ride, about 12 hours in the other direction (Da Lat to Hoi An). Either way, expect to step off in the dark or at first light rather than at a civilised hour.

It is also colder than you think. Da Lat sits at about 1,500 m: nights are around 12°C in November and 10°C in December (Da Lat weather by month). The bus air conditioning is cold too, so wear the jacket on the bus rather than packing it under it.

From the bus to our door

Where the bus stops depends on the company: the inter-provincial station a few kilometres south of the centre, or a drop-off point in town. Many big companies run a free shuttle van from the station into town; otherwise a Grab or taxi is a short ride. The full arrival guide is in how to get to Da Lat.

Show the driver our address in Vietnamese: 02 Cổ Loa, Phường Xuân Hương, Đà Lạt. The hostel is about 2 km from the centre, 15 minutes on foot from Xuan Huong Lake.

Reception opens at 07:30: drop your bags here and travel light until check-in at 13:30.

Before 07:30: breakfast within a short walk

If you arrive before reception opens, eat first. These are places we send our own guests to, with the opening hours they keep (distances are straight-line from the hostel, add a little for the streets):

  • Pho Hieu, 103 Nguyen Van Troi (about 600 m): a long-running family pho shop, open daily from 05:30. The earliest hot bowl near us.
  • Tau Cao wonton noodles, 217 Phan Dinh Phung (about 900 m): an old-school noodle shop locals pack out in the morning, open from 06:00.
  • Pho Tho Da Chu Gia, 29 Thong Thien Hoc (about 300 m): pho in a sizzling stone pot, open from 06:30.
  • La Viet Coffee, 200 Nguyen Cong Tru (about 200 m): a big roastery café, open from 07:00. Coffee, then cross the road to us when reception opens.

💡 Local tip: Breakfast at the hostel is a paid extra and is ordered the day before, so on the morning you arrive, eat out. More local breakfasts (banh mi xiu mai, bun bo) are in what to eat in Da Lat.

Do not waste the morning: tours that leave from the hostel

Want the bed the moment you arrive? Book the night before

Early check-in depends on the bed being empty, which nobody can promise a week ahead. The one way to be certain is to book from the night before you arrive: then the bed is yours from 13:30 the day before and waiting when your bus gets in. On a dorm bed that is often worth it after a sleepless night on the road. Room prices change by date, so check yours on the booking page.

Booking direct: best available rate, no booking fees, pay at check-in, and WhatsApp support for your arrival time.

Leaving on a night bus: the same problem in reverse

Check-out is 11:30, and most night buses leave in the evening (the bus to Hoi An, for example, leaves at 18:30). Ask reception to keep your luggage after check-out and hire a shower towel for 20,000 VND, so you can shower before a long ride. Our buses pick up at the hostel: see the bus schedule for today's times and fares, and Da Lat to Ho Chi Minh City for the Saigon run.

Yes. From 07:30, when reception opens, you can leave your bags with us and go out until check-in at 13:30.

What time does reception open?

Reception is open 07:30–22:00. WhatsApp is answered around the clock, so tell us before you board if your bus will arrive early.

My night bus arrives at 5 AM. What should I do?

Wear your jacket (nights are around 10–12°C in November and December), take a Grab or the bus company's shuttle into town, and have breakfast: Pho Hieu on Nguyen Van Troi opens at 05:30. Walk over when reception opens at 07:30, leave your bags and start the day.

Can I shower after check-out before my night bus?

Ask reception: you can leave your luggage after check-out (11:30) and hire a shower towel for 20,000 VND before your bus.

Is breakfast included?
