Where to Go After Da Lat: Every Next Stop Compared

Saigon, Mui Ne, Nha Trang, Hoi An or the Highlands by motorbike: how long, how often, from how much, and which one fits your route. Updated November 2026.

The short answer

Going north? Take the 4-hour bus down the Khanh Le pass to Nha Trang and follow the coast, or the 18:30 overnight sleeper to Hoi An (about 12 hours). Going south or flying out of Saigon? Stop at Mui Ne for the beach (about 4 hours), or ride straight to Ho Chi Minh City: buses every hour from 8:00 to 23:00, about 8 hours by day or 6–7 overnight. Not in a hurry? Leave on the back of an Easy Rider instead of a bus. Every bus below picks you up at the hostel for free, about 1 hour before departure; message us on WhatsApp with your date and we book the seat.

Which order works

Three common routes through Da Lat, and where the bus out fits.

Saigon → Da Lat → north. You came up from the south, so go down the other side: Nha Trang in about 4 hours by day, with the views of the pass, then the coast or the train north. In a hurry, the 18:30 overnight sleeper to Hoi Anskips the coast and saves a night's bed.

Hoi An / Nha Trang → Da Lat → south. Coming down from the north, finish with the beach: Mui Ne is about 4 hours, and Saigon is the next leg from there. Or go straight to Ho Chi Minh City if your flight is close.

A loop out of Saigon. Saigon → Mui Ne → Da Lat → Saigon: the beach first, then up the mountain from Mui Ne, then the bus back to Saigon: about 8 hours by day or 6–7 overnight, so leave a buffer before a flight.

Leaving Da Lat FAQ

Where should I go after Da Lat?

Heading south or flying out of Saigon: Mui Ne for the beach (about 4 hours), then on to Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon directly (about 8 hours by day, 6–7 overnight). Heading north: Nha Trang first (about 4 hours over the Khanh Le pass), then the coast to Hoi An; or the overnight sleeper straight to Hoi An (about 12 hours), or fly Lien Khuong to Da Nang (about 1 h 20).

Mui Ne or Nha Trang after Da Lat?

Both are about 4 hours by road. Pick Mui Ne if you are going south afterwards and want the sand dunes; pick Nha Trang if you are going north, because it sits on the north–south railway and the coast road to Hoi An.

Is there a train from Da Lat?

No. Da Lat is not on the north–south railway. Take the bus down to Nha Trang (about 4 hours) and the train from there, or fly from Lien Khuong airport.

Do the buses pick up from the hostel?

Yes. When you book through Mooka's Home, pickup from the hostel is free, about 1 hour before departure, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. You pay at reception.

Can I go by motorbike instead of the bus?

Yes, on the back of an Easy Rider with a local rider-guide: US$75 per person per day, one day to Mui Ne or Nha Trang, three to Saigon, five or six to Hoi An, with rooms on the multi-day rides and entrance tickets included. Your backpack rides on the bike.

How far ahead should I book the bus out of Da Lat?

The day before is safest, especially for morning departures and the 18:30 overnight to Hoi An. Same-day seats are often available, but they can sell out on weekends and Vietnamese holidays, when prices may rise too.
